Roofing in Prospect

Prospect's interwar bungalows are being extended and renovated street by street, and the roof is where old meets new: a 1920s main roof, a 1990s lean-to and a contemporary rear addition, all draining into each other. Most leaks we're asked to look at in suburbs like this start at those junctions.

Prospect roofs / what we see

Where a new roof meets an old one, the flashing detail decides whether the join stays dry. Apron flashings tucked under tiles, step flashings against brick and the valley between two roof planes are the places to look first, and they're photographed at inspection so you can see the problem rather than take our word for it.

Older Prospect homes often still have the original galvanised valley irons and gutters. Replacing those during a restoration, rather than painting over them, is usually the difference between a restored roof and a roof that leaks again in two winters.
